In defense of the biblical doctrine of Hell, Annihilationism Debunked explains how the annihilationist view undermines God's character, distorts His purpose of election, diminishes the eternal value and efficacy of Christ's saving work, and involves significant misinterpretation of the Bible. As an introductory book, Annihilationism Debunked also reviews various proof texts, explains how the cultists will twist them, responds with exegesis, and defends the doctrine of Hell, according to Scripture alone, all for the glory of God alone. ENDORSEMENTS This book is designed for Annihilationists and all mockers of God's rule of His own creation. Such deniers of eternal punishment must also deny eternal salvation because God's wrath and grace stem from the one Divine decree. Hernandez seeks to enlighten those who set pagan cultic folk-lore above the true Word of God. He demonstrates that Atheists might well prefer annihilation to punishment for sin, but by so doing they scorn God's sovereignty over Heaven, Earth and Hell. The warning is clear: Be not deceived. God is not mocked. Eternal punishment is something known and felt, not ignored by annihilation. Dr. George Ella >It characterizes the book-writing ministry of Dr. Sonny Hernandez that he exposes false doctrines that otherwise fly under the radar and that he proves by irrefutable exegesis of Scripture truths that are unpopular and therefore largely ignored. Earlier he contended for the sovereign decree of reprobation. In this slim, but weighty, volume he opposes the false doctrine of annihilationism and demonstrates the biblical doctrine of the eternal conscious torment of the reprobate ungodly in hell. This is not an unimportant doctrine. At stake in the confession of everlasting hell is the vey nature of God as the holy upholder of His own infinite goodness. At stake also is the infinite seriousness of unbelief concerning Jesus Christ, and therefore the seriousness of the infinite guilt of a life of unbelief and ungodliness. As is always the case with Hernandez' work, although he quotes extensively theological authorities on his subject, sound exegesis governs the controversy. Jude 21 establishes what is meant by "eternal" in verse 7. And Revelation 20:10, of the devil's punishment, establishes the nature and duration of the punishment of wicked humans elsewhere in Revelation: "tormented day and night for ever and ever." The believer will read the book with awe at the holiness of God expressed in the reality of hell; with an awakened awareness of the awfulness of hell, and, therefore, of the guilt of his or her sinfulness and sin; and with lively gratitude to Jesus Christ for suffering the infinite, eternal torment of hell in his or her stead. David J. Engelsma Professor of Dogmatics and Old Testament Studies Emeritus >Highly commendable and excellent work of shining the light of God's Word and glory on the perverse denial of the everlasting torment of the wicked. The distinct value of the book is the emphasis on the glory of God's being and of His sovereign, unconditional counsel of both election and reprobation. The exegetical presentation is rock-solid and well-supported with many worthy references. Soli Deo Gloria! Rev. Martin VanderWal Sovereign Grace Reformed Church
