Having studied and reviewed English translations of Greek Cypriot poetry extensively, I came to the conclusion that there are lines in each translation which are more successful than in alternate versions. This is because each reading of an original poem and each translation is undertaken from a distinctive approach and each translator attaches particular value to one aspect of the work. Translations therefore differ. This makes the selection of the most adequate translation of the original, a difficult process. Some translation scholars recommend group translations or parallel versions so that readers can appreciate the various facets of the literary work. This bilingual Anthology follows a similar approach, offering the reader parallel or more translated versions which will surely assist them to grasp the richer meaning and get a fuller glimpse of the poet's vision.
