This paper seeks to understand, based on the practice developed in the subject Diversidade Afrodescendente e Diversidade Indígena (DADI), part of the school curriculum in the 6th and 7th grades of elementary school in the municipality of Porto Seguro, how teachers interpret and materialize the laws that inspired the creation of this subject. To this end, this study was conducted through interviews and presentation of results in a continuing education course for teachers of the municipal network of Porto Seguro, which was concluded from the reflection that the subject DADI fulfills a very important role to comply with the legislation that is in force in relation to the Laws in 10.639/2003 and 11.645/2008. However, it is necessary to go beyond this discipline and address racial issues in an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and institutionalized way.
