Interest in medicinal plants has increased in recent years, this interest has lead to the discovery of new biologically active molecules by the pharmaceutical industry and the adoption of crude extracts of plants for self-medication by the general public, they are used in perfumes, cosmetics, for flavoring food and drink, and for adding scents to incense and household cleaning products. Since some essential oils have demonstrated anti-microbial effects it has been suggested that they may be useful for the treatment of infectious diseases
