Overuse and misuse of antibiotics have led to the emergence of bacterial resistance worldwide. Antibiotics must be used rationally in hospital practice. The objective of this work was to evaluate the prescription of antibiotics at the University Hospital of Bouaké. A survey of the medical and surgical specialty services of the CHU was conducted for 3 months in 2016. Data on antibiotic prescription was collected from the records and treatment sheets of hospitalized patients who had received antibiotic treatment. Our local data were: 1888 patients registered for hospitalization, 1232 patients were on antibiotics, an overall prescription rate of 65%. The frequency of prescription was variable in the services. A total of 1872 molecules of different therapeutic classes were prescribed. Bacteriologically documented infections represented 5.19%. In conclusion, the frequency of antibiotic prescription was high at the University Hospital of Bouaké.
