Micro-organisms create problems in textiles, clothing, and footwear through fiber degradation, aesthetic problems of dour formation and staining and hygienic problems. So improving the resistance of textiles to microbial attack has been recognized as necessary finishing. Current interest in antimicrobial finishes has been greatly stimulated by changing consumer lifestyles, especially the pursuit of a more physically active and healthy approach and the use of apparel to create a comfort zone of "wellness" or well being.
