GILBERTO LÓPEZ Y RIVAS is a leading Mexican professor of anthropology. He received his doctorate at the University of Utah. He has also been a consistent political activist and a prominent spokesperson for the social movements in Latin America. He is a regular contributor to the Mexican daily "La Jornada” and has had numerous books published in Spain and Latin America, including "La Guerra de 1847” about the Mexican-American war, also published by Ocean Sur.
