When faced with learning a subject such as mathematics, a student may gradually develop an interest in, or even a passion for, the subject or, conversely, an antipathy that may go as far as avoiding the subject. Anxiety about mathematics seems to have an influence on the student's performance, ability to concentrate and motivation for the subject. This has been extensively demonstrated in the United States and Europe. One could then ask the following questions: Does mathematics anxiety in Burkina Faso affect high school students' performance in mathematics? Does it have an impact on a Burkinabè student's ability to concentrate in the subject? Does it lead to avoidance of the mathematics subject by Burkinabè students?
