Agriculture can serve as an important engine for economic growth in developing countries. Yet yields in developing countries have lagged far behind those in developed countries for decades. One potential mechanism for increasing yields and hence agricultural production is the use of improved technologies, such as fertilizers, improved seeds and cropping techniques. Within the agriculture and other sectors, decision makers require evidence of the efficient and effective use of resources. Meanwhile, those working in the agriculture sector and on programmes need to provide evidence of the optimal use of resources For instance, the sector needs to build its evidence base and document its successes and failures in responding to the emerging issues in the world. This mini study was set out to investigate the application of information and communication technologies on monitoring and evaluation practices on projects in agricultural extension in Mumias sugar Company. The specific objectives that guided in the systematic collection of and analysis of data were firstly to establish the uptake of ICT on monitoring and evaluation practices on projects in agricultural extension.

Janet Lilian Maina holds a Bed Science degree of Egerton University and is currently a PhD student of project planning and management. She is an adjuvant lecturer at Nairobi University and also a distinguished lecturer of mathematics at Sang'alo Institute of science and Technology in Kenya.
