In this context, the present work explores the application of reverse engineering (RE) based technology for the manufacturing of a typical human living related product in India to enhance manufacturing excellence. With the advent of technologies and computer based applications, the possibilities of their implementation in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) need to be studied. The present work focuses on a particular category of cottage industry or MSME dealing with design and manufacture of prosthetic sockets used as artificial limbs of amputees.
