This textbook explores aspects of biology and ecophysiology of weeds, weed competition and interference in crops, phytosociological survey, methods of control and weed integrated management. Herbicides are of great importance in weed management and are one of the most widely used pesticide groups for weed control across the globe. Offering a new direction for research that focuses on herbicide behavior in plants, hormesis, evolution of weed resistance to herbicides, and genetically modified crops resistant to herbicides, this book covers the recent research in applied weed and herbicide…mehr
This textbook explores aspects of biology and ecophysiology of weeds, weed competition and interference in crops, phytosociological survey, methods of control and weed integrated management. Herbicides are of great importance in weed management and are one of the most widely used pesticide groups for weed control across the globe. Offering a new direction for research that focuses on herbicide behavior in plants, hormesis, evolution of weed resistance to herbicides, and genetically modified crops resistant to herbicides, this book covers the recent research in applied weed and herbicide science.
This book provides essential and updated information on various subjects regarding the advances in herbicide science; and it is intended for professors, undergraduate, and graduate students, rural producers and other professionals involved in the area of applied weed and herbicide science. Agriculturists, analytical chemists, and toxicologists will find this book rewarding.
Kassio Ferreira Mendes is a Professor of Biology and Integrated Management of Weeds, Department of Agronomy, Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), Brazil. He graduated from the State University of Mato Grosso, Brazil and received a master's in Agronomy from UFV. He did his PhD and pos-doc in Nuclear Energy in Agriculture at the Center of Nuclear Energy in Agriculture, University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil with research fellowship at University of Minnesota (U of M) and United States Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service (USDA - ARS). Dr. Mendes is a member of the Brazilian Society of Weed Science. Antonio Alberto da Silva holds a PhD in Soils and Plant Nutrition from the University of São Paulo (USP). He is currently full professor at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) and 1B fellow in research productivity by CNPq. Published 380 articles in scientific journals, published/organized 11 books and 57 book chapters. He supervised seven post-doctorates and supervised 56 PhD students, 69 master's and 36 scientific initiation students. He is the leader of a CNPq research group and participates in several others. He is a consultant in the Graduate Programs of Crop Science and Agrochemistry of the UFV, member of CTNBio. He acts mainly on the following topics: environmental herbicide interaction, herbicide resistance and integrated weed management.
