"Architecture and Concrete" (Text in German/French) The qualified criticism regarding town-planning deficits of the past decades has often lead to a generalized condemnation of concrete. This publication shows that building with concrete does not automatically mean "concrete-ghettos", since not the material but the way of its use result in good or deterrent solutions. The possiblities of up-to-date and appropiate building with the relatively new reinforced concrete are not yet fully used. Numerous international examples of concrete structures are shown in this work: The Bauhaus building by Gropius, Carlo Scarpa's cemetery Brion in San Vito, Santiago Calatrava's bridge in Barcelona, Le Corbusier's ecllesiastical buildings, James Stirling's and Michael Wilford's industrial plants of the Braun AG in Melsungen and the Vitra Design Museum by Frank Gehry.Die berechtige Kritik an städtebaulichen Defiziten vergangener Jahrzehnte hat vielfach zu einer pauschalen Verurteilung des Werkstoffs Beton geführt. Daß Bauen in Beton aber nicht zwangsläufig "Beton-Ghetto" und "verbetonierte Landschaft" bedeuten muß, zeigt dieser Band. Denn nicht das Baumaterial, sondern allein die Art seiner Verwendung führt zu guten oder zu abschreckenden Lösungen. Eisenbeton ist kaum einhundert Jahre im Gebrauch. Seine Möglichkeiten zu einem zeitgemäßen, zweck- und bedürfnisgerechten Bauen sind noch lange nicht ausgeschöpft.
