Emma thinks her little sister Bree and Grandpa are alike. Grandpa doesn't. Watching Bree grow from a toddler to a college coed, Emma makes her case by highlighting how Bree's newfound experiences mirror Grandpa's. There is the time they both buy shoes with sticky straps. Autorenporträt
A designer, teacher, and multigenerational fan, Mike often sees the world in unusual ways. One is how our latter years mirror our early years. Mike collected "alikes" for years while pondering how to best share them so they might find delight across generations. The answer became the children's picture book Are They Alike? because children's books are as enjoyable to adults as to children. Mike's bookshelves still hold a handful of children's books he read again and again with his grandparents. Much later he discovered his favorite from that collection was by Peter Newell, the author/illustrator who inspired Dr. Seuss. Mike can't answer whether it is the designer in him that led to his love of children's books or the honesty and simplicity of children's books that led him to design. Mike and his children's-book-loving wife live in Wisconsin and shower their grandchildren with books they hope will never be outgrown.
