No one expects their baby to be born prematurely, or to need hospitalized care for weeks (or sometimes even months!) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). And when the unexpected happens...it can be a scary time! This beautifully illustrated children's book will: - Alleviate some of that fear by introducing parents to the members of their baby's medical team who, like pieces of a puzzle, each play an important role in helping their baby grow and develop to reach that glorious "graduation day from the NICU". - Take you on a journey with the NICU baby as she goes in search of her mother. There are many faces she meets at the bedside, but eventually finds herself skin to skin with her mother! This book is specially designed for mothers and fathers to read aloud to their baby and facilitate the bonding experience. - Provide you with a scrapbook/special memory book. Designated pages are available in the back of the book for the medical team to write personalized messages to the family, who will look back in the years to come and always remember the special caregivers who helped navigate their NICU journey. Great gift for parents/grandparents of a NICU baby that will be treasured for years to come!

Lori Brecto recently retired after 31 years of NICU nursing. She began her career at United Hospital (now Altru) in Grand Forks, ND. She then worked at Phoenix Children's Hospital and most recently cared for babies in the Honor Health Shea NICU in Scottsdale, AZ. She and her husband, Todd, split their time between their beach home in Rocky Point, Mexico and their mountain cabin in Forest Lakes, AZ.
