Doctor en Letras por la Universidad Simón Bolívar (Caracas), es Profesor Titular de esta institución, donde ha sido Decano de Estudios Generales y Jefe del Departamento de Lengua y Literatura. Entre sus libros se encuentran "Ramos Sucre y la Edad Media" (1990, 1992; Premio Conac de Ensayo 1991) y "Salir a la realidad: un legado quijotesco" (1999).
