The Cypress Tip Moth (Argyresthia cupressella) is a moth of the Yponomeutidae family. It is endemic to the western coast of the United States and Canada, but has been introduced in Europe. The wingspan is 8 9 mm. Adults are on wing from June to July depending on the location. The larvae feed on Chamaecyparis, Cupressocyparis, Thuja, Sequoia and Juniperus species. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described.
