Aria for Winds is based on Glen Gillis' earlier composition, Nicole's Aria" for alto saxophone and piano---dedicated to his daughter shortly after she was born. In the Aeolian mode, this piece incorporates some subtle dissonances within a hollow open 5th harmony. Haunting melodic lines combined with colorful percussion writing make this a terrific concert or contest piece."
