In 1950 he was convicted of forging documents favouring a diamond business, and was sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment. The judgment was upheld by the supreme court in 1953, and he died in prison itself. Arjun Singh was married to Saroj Devi of Pratapgarh near Amarpatan in Satna, M.P. and the couple have two sons and a daughter. Abhimanyu Singh, their first son, is a businessman in Bangalore
