Martial Arts Master Percy Brown was seven years old when his mother sent him to a market where a grown man kicked him in the stomach and robbed him. When he told the man that he would tell his mom, the man replied, "I'll kick your mom's ass too." This incident caused him to both question the GOD his mother was teaching him about and, to begin studying Martial Arts. After studying under American instructors for years, Master Brown was fortunate enough to encounter and to train under three (3) Korean Grandmasters. Two of them taught Tae Kwon Do and one taught Hapkido. He wrote "AMERICAN MARTIAL ARTS" after noticing that the Grandmasters were mainly concerned with, "becoming a good man, being modest, courteous, having integrity and selfcontrol." While many American instructors focus on fighting techniques. While meeting people with different religious backgrounds, there were some who studied witchcraft. Master Brown was a non-believer in the power of witches until one woman frightened him enough to begin studying Anthropology. Anthropological studies in "Religion, Magic and Witchcraft" opened doors to exciting new worlds with the realization that there is a spiritual realm and evil beings that tempt man. One verse from the Christian Bible reads: (James 1:13 English Standard Version 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.)In one incident, Master Brown could not understand his teacher being angry about a fight that someone forced him into. "Martial Arts is not to prove how tough you are!" Grandmaster Cho said. "It is for spiritual development."In pondering "spiritual development," he began to see the importance of developing and protecting the spirit as well as the body. His studies led him to believe that there is a war between good and evil that started well before mankind appeared. Whether we are religious or not, we, as men, encounter temptation. Some believe that humankind has a free will, Master Brown came to believe that men can only choose right or wrong which usually amounts to GOOD or EVIL. We must decide and we must pay for our decisions.
