In this qualitative research of interpretative paradigm, the information was produced through a Narrative Analysis of the life stories of an adult woman with fibromyalgia in sessions of Psychoanalytic Art Therapy, to unveil the latent conflict of why and why it happens to a particular woman; that is, the meanings constructed to the manifestations of her illness. The results reveal that the person with fibromyalgia presents a strong emotional dependence on the family, to which she can dedicate and sacrifice her life, regardless of her own needs and desires, to the point of risking the autonomy of the Self; where through pain and suffering she expresses her lack of spontaneity, creativity and flexibility. Individual Art Therapy is suggested for the understanding of fibromyalgia and; Group Art Therapy in a multidisciplinary intervention to achieve therapeutic objectives, by developing socialisation and interpersonal learning, relevant in the person with fibromyalgia to get out of a social life limited by pain and rigid interaction patterns.
