This book covers all aspects of the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of stroke, offering an integrated perspective that will be relevant to a range of specialists. Extensive consideration is given to the different methods of stroke prevention and arterial revascularization, with up-to-date information on pharmacological measures and clear presentation of endovascular stent placement procedures and surgical techniques, including those involving the carotid artery, vertebral artery, and aortic arch. Complex procedures, such as simultaneous bilateral carotid revascularization, are discussed in depth, drawing on a large series of cases and setting out practical rules. The diagnosis and treatment of intra- and extracranial aneurysms and the management of cervical trauma are examined fully. In addition, the reader is provided with guidance on characterization of the culprit lesion by means of different imaging modalities and with advice on the importance of a multidisciplinary team and combined approaches (endovascular and surgical), identification of risk factors, anesthesia, neuromonitoring, and hemodynamic monitoring. The book will be of value not only for cardiac and vascular surgeons but also for cardiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, anatomists, specialists in diagnostic imaging, and interventional radiologists.
Dr Muresian is a senior cardiovascular surgeon with a cross-cultural medical and scientific experience. He earned his MD title at the University of Medicine - Bucharest (1985), in the USA (1994) and in Italy (1998). He completed cardiovascular surgery fellowships at "San Donato" and at "Niguarda" Cardiac Centers in Milan, Italy and at "The Advanced Cardiovascular Institute" in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Dr Muresian is appointed as head of the Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic at the University Hospital of Bucharest. Dr Muresian's surgical interests comprise the new techniques in coronary surgery, valvular plasty, the use of homo- and autografts, the surgery of aortic aneurysms, the surgical therapy of cerebro-vascular diseases (including revascularization of the vertebro-basilar system) and limb-salvage vascular and hybrid procedures. Since his medical student years, Dr Muresian has been continuously involved in research activity, particularly regarding the anatomy and embryology of thecardiovascular and of the central nervous systems. Dr Muresian has elaborated or co-authored over 100 scientific works and publications being also well-known for his special expertise in medical photography.

Rezensionen
"This book covers all aspects of stroke prevention and arterial revascularization. ... It deals directly with complex treatment modalities and will be helpful to cardiac, vascular, and neurosurgeons as well as neurologists, cardiologists, interventional radiologists, and many other professionals involved in the treatment and prevention of stroke. ... This is an area that involves many different specialties and this book offers a great interdisciplinary approach to this complex condition." (Michael Bates, Doody's Book Reviews, February, 2017)
