Originally written in the late 1990's, this memoir captures the life of a man born in the early 20th century in rural Wisconsin. This book describes the life of a young boy who with his family survived the brutal winters of Wisconsin, and with nothing more than a high school diploma overcame all the obstacles of growing up through two world wars and the Great Depression. His memories have been enhanced through the careful compiling of the history of the Winkler/Henderson/Knodle families. Through their efforts, we were blessed with a treasure trove of documents, photos, and artifacts lovingly preserved by generations of the matriarchs and patriarchs and passed down. From a family-only manuscript to this published work, we were able to add photographic and genealogical richness to the stories.
