AS YOU GO, REMEMBER emerged out of the 2022 symposium, "Glad Reunion: Celebrating the Ministry and Legacy of John R. Claypool." This collection shares sermons from his four main pastorates and his retirement. Claypool published thirteen books, many of which contained his sermons. This book contains eleven of his sermons centering on social issues that affected the believing communities he served. Why should sermons on social issues, written as long as sixty years ago, still be important to the reader today? The sermons included in this book are set in a certain historical context. There are mentions of fair and equal accommodations for all people, Watergate, the Moral Majority, and 9/11. However, while there is a historical context to each sermon based on past events, Claypool's sermons share insights about dealing with topics still present in today society: racism, poverty, nationalism, neighborliness, and the arms race.
