Ascorbic acid (AA) also known as Vitamin-C, is a vitamin found in food and used as a dietary supplement. As a supplement it is used to treat and prevent scurvy. Oxidative methods have been proposed for the determination of AA in pharmaceuticals using N-bromosuccinimide, cerium(IV) and permanganate. The methods were developed and validated in accordance to the ICH guidelines. The results of the proposed methods were found suitable as routine quality control procedures for determination of AA in pharmaceuticals without compromising to accuracy, precision, robustness, ruggedness and selectivity. The proposed methods are superior with respect to experimental conditions, adaptability and relative ease of performance. The results of statistical and recovery tests also confirmed about the accuracy and precision of the proposed methods.
