This study explores greenwashing in the building industry, where companies exaggerate or misrepresent their environmental claims. It aims to assess current certification systems, understand consumer behavior, examine regulations, and suggest improvements. By promoting transparency and sustainability, it protects consumers and the environment while enhancing industry credibility. The hypothesis is that regulatory systems need improvement to prevent greenwashing effectively. Objectives include identifying greenwashing instances, evaluating certification systems, and understanding consumer perceptions. Focused on office buildings, campuses, and malls, the study offers recommendations primarily for India but with global insights. Ultimately, it seeks to expose deceptive practices and advocate for a more transparent and credible construction industry.
