The increasing awareness of water issue in Central India and the prospect of emerging water crises during the first decade of the 21st century has led to growing concern about the sustainable use of water resources. Since Central provinces in India extend over arid and semi-arid zones, groundwater constitutes the main source of water supply. Protection of this resource is indispensably necessary to ensure sustainable development. The purpose of this book is to provide a mature approach to the assessment of groundwater vulnerability in GIS environment that will permit the appropriate tools & techniques for interdisciplinary prospects to enhanced management of water resources systems. This book has covers assessment of intrinsic groundwater vulnerability using DRASTIC model and model validation. This study produces a very valuable tool for policy makers as it reveals a very comprehensive indication of vulnerability to groundwater contamination. The knowledge about high vulnerable zone is important for local authorities to manage and monitor groundwater resources.
