The urban growth of the municipality of Cabo de Santo Agostinho resulted in the search for housing and often the spaces "available" for construction of these dwellings were areas where Brazilian legislation calls Permanent Preservation Areas, usually hills and river banks. These sites fulfil an important environmental function for flora and fauna, while also posing risks to the communities living in the area.
