The objective of this study was to seek information about the problem of solid waste management, the use of inappropriate places for the final destination of waste and the identification of environmental impacts caused by the disposal of waste at the dump of São Bento - PB, detecting the socio-environmental processes that are characterized in the surroundings of the dump. The research was based on digital satellite images, site visits, photographic records and bibliographic survey. A simplified environmental diagnosis was developed through field visits, bibliographic research, and the use of photographic documentation. To evaluate the environmental impacts, the Ad Hoc, Checklist, and Interaction Matrix methods were used. Based on the study in scientific and technical literature, environmental control measures were proposed. According to the results, 27 negative environmental impacts were observed, being 10 very significant, 15 significant and 2 not significant. Proposals were made for mitigating and preventive measures for environmental management.
