Water resources are of critical importance to both natural ecosystem and human development. Any change in the natural quality may disturb the equilibrium system and would become unfit for designated uses. The quality of Groundwater, River and Tuikhur (sub-surface water) in South-west Lawngtlai district, Mizoram has been assessed in this work. The main objective is investigating the physico-chemical, bacteriological and other cations and anions characteristics used for domestic and household purposes. Further, estimation of the concentration of heavy metals or trace elements is also aimed as well. This study provides an informative primary data on water quality parameters and helps to understand the status of contamination of various water sources and its possible influence on the ecological system. The main sources of heavy metals/ trace elements along with different parameters in potable water are discussed in the light of geological composition of the host rock and with other local anthropogenic activities due to increasing urbanization, agricultural runoff containing fertilizers, pesticides and industrial effluent.
