This open access book systematically summarizes the current research progress of attachment ventilation, covering vertical wall attachment, column attachment, and adaptive attachment ventilation. Attachment ventilation is a high-performance ventilation mode that was first proposed by the author, Prof. Angui Li 20 years ago. Now it has been widely used in office spaces, subway stations, high-speed railway stations, international airport terminals, and other large spaces. This book introduces attachment ventilation in detail to eliminate the cooling/heating load of the occupied zone and provide an expected environment for the air-conditioned zone. Attachment ventilation combines the advantages of traditional mixed ventilation and displacement ventilation. This book consists of six chapters, covering a series of airflow patterns, mechanisms, parameter correlations, and attachment ventilation design methods. It is helpful for HVAC engineers to design attachment ventilation effectively.
Professor Angui Li is the dean of the School of Building Serveries Science and Engineering at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, China. For more than 30 years, he has been active in the field of high-performance ventilation for large spaces, such as industrial ventilation areas, underground hydropower stations, subways or tunnels. He has led more than 60 research projects, including the European Union project, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and major engineering projects. Professor Angui Li won 2 National Technology Invention Awards and 14 Provincial Science and Technology Awards. He also won the WSSET Innovation Award by the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies, which is a recognition of his achievement on attachment ventilation. Prof. Angui Li has published more than 300 scientific articles, including 160 SCI papers. Additionally, he has more than 80 invention patents. He was the president of the ROOMVENT conference in 2022, the ISHVAC conference in 2013, etc. He is the vice chairman of the China Refrigeration and Heat Pump Committee. He is a member of IEC and a fellow member of ISBE and WSSET and served as an editor of several international journals.
