They've been asleep for millions of years. Now they're awake and hungry--ravenously hungry! ATTACK OF THE BLACK SCORPIONS will draw you into the next dimension of extreme horror and eat you alive! Overworked electrical lineman Dan Montgomery takes his family on an RV road trip through the American Southwest to unwind and reconnect - especially with his rebellious teenage daughter, Jennie. But when ravenous 12-foot scorpions assault the remote Desert Rocks campground, Dan must rally his family and fellow campers to put aside their differences and ingeniously use the materials at hand to survive. Opening with a tip of the hat to the classic giant creature features, ATTACK OF THE BLACK SCORPIONS then launches its readers on a modern day, over-the-top science-fantasy thrill ride. Buckle your seat belt! Includes Portrait Gallery of Principal Characters in Appendix. WARNING! - CONTAINS EXTREMELY GRUESOME DESCRIPTIONS OF INTENSE MONSTER VIOLENCE, along with other scenes involving coarse language and sexual situations. Therefore, this novel is Suggested for Mature Readers. If you loved the classic giant bug movies like THEM and TARANTULA, Guy N Smith's giant crab novels, Dean Owen's steamy monster movie novelizations, or Pierce Nace's cult novel EAT THEM ALIVE, then ATTACK OF THE BLACK SCORPIONS is definitely for you!
Autorenporträt
DAVID V. GREGORY's earliest childhood memory is of being planted in front of an old Philco TV and delighting over the first Black & White Looney Tunes ever syndicated to local stations. Not only did those vintage Porky and Daffy shorts nurture his sense of humor, but that exposure to the work of Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, and Frank Tashlin began wiring Dave's young brain in the techniques of visual storytelling. In grade school, Dave found himself making 8mm animated cartoons. And while in high school - inspired by the films of Don Chaffey, Ray Harryhausen, and others - Dave created 20-minute 16mm sci-fi epics with self-executed visual effects. After receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Motion Picture Production from Southern Illinois University, Dave began his Hollywood career as an Optical Special-Effects Cameraman at Ray Mercer & Company. In those pre-digital days, while employed with Mercer's, Pacific Title, and other studios, Dave contributed optical special effects for numerous features, television programs, and commercials - including the original STAR WARS, STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE, HANGAR 18, LEAPIN' LEPRECHAUNS, THE ARRIVAL, and QUEST OF THE DELTA KNIGHTS (yes, those plasma comets that blew-up David Warner at the end were actually Dave's own hand-drawn animation). A few years later, Dave transitioned into the digital realm as the Supervising Colorist for Warner Digital Studio's flying saucer and global destruction effects on MARS ATTACKS.Throughout his visual effects career, Dave never stopped writing, making short films, and creating traditional & CG art - all under the auspices of his d/b/a, Galaxie Entertainment Company. Since 2003, Dave concentrated his efforts solely on his own ventures, while retaining the artistic sensibilities he developed in the hands-on analog days.
