The end of the twentieth century in literature is a period characterized by the desire to free oneself from old theoretical shackles. Barriers, once insurmountable, are abolished between genres: while autobiography was perceived as incompatible with fiction, autofiction is born. The death of the millennium therefore brings with it the subversion of a whole distant aesthetic tradition, but not only, since these upheavals are coupled with a deep questioning of society as a whole. Indeed, at the dawn of unbridled consumerism and ecological awareness, capitalism appears as an outdated model, while the ideology of transparency that characterizes the digital age begins to show its limits.
