In this diploma work, the proposal for the automation of the natural gas pipeline final station, a project belonging to Empresa de Ingeniería y Proyectos del Petróleo, is carried out. It is necessary to study the particularities of the technological process and the instrumentation present in order to design an automated system that monitors the state of valves, the main variables, the interaction between them and their influence on the process. The proposed new design requires new intelligent devices, more accurate, reliable, robust and certified for explosive atmospheres. The SIMATIC STEP 7 program from SIEMENS is used for the design and configuration of the communication infrastructure and the selected controllers. Based on expert criteria, the correct parameterization of the devices and the implementation of the algorithms used in the logical sequence of operation of the pipeline is achieved. In addition, the design and programming of the SCADA application for monitoring the processes occurring at the end station of the pipeline is carried out with the SIMATIC WinCC program.
