In the vast field of embedded systems, where electronic systems interact in a complex, synchronized way, reliable communication between components plays a vital role. This is where the Controller Area Network (CAN), or CAN bus, proves to be an essential cornerstone. The CAN bus is much more than just a communications protocol: it is the link that enables embedded devices to communicate, whether in the automotive, industrial, medical or aerospace sectors. This document will focus on understanding the elements of CAN frames, explaining their structure and operation. The aim is to show how the CAN bus guarantees secure data transmission, even in electromagnetically harsh environments. To illustrate these concepts, we'll be using the Arduino in combination with the MCP2515 shield, enabling us to put the CAN protocol into practice.
