Avulsion fractures of the tibial eminence are intra-articular injuries that mainly affect the pediatric population. In general, they are due to a mechanism of flexion and internal rotation during sports practice. In adults, on the other hand, they are caused by high-energy trauma and are mostly associated with concomitant soft tissue injuries. Accurate diagnosis requires the performance of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Meyers and McKeevers classified these fractures into 4 types according to the degree of displacement and comminution. While those of lesser degree can be treated conservatively, those of greater degree and with great displacement are to be treated surgically, being arthroscopy the surgery of choice. Of the wide variety of techniques described, pull-out sutures and reduction and osteosynthesis with cannulated screws are the ones chosen by most authors. The aim of this book is to make a bibliographic review of avulsion fractures of the tibial spine with a comprehensive approach to the pathology.
