His Majesty the Fourth King of Bhutan Jigme Singye Wangchuck gave a revolutionary concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH) to the world in 1972. His Majesty rightly suggested that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was not the only and appropriate measure of nation's development. His Majesty coined the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH) and suggested the same as an inevitable tool to measure the development of a nation. The four pillars of GNH which he has suggested are: 1. Sustainable and equitable Socio-economic Development 2. Environmental Conservation 3. The Preservation and Promotion of Culture 4. Good Governance.
