Roland Benz (born 1943) studied Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics at the University of Würzburg (Germany) before joining the group of Peter Läuger at Konstanz University, where he obtained his PhD in Biology and his habilitation in Biophysics. Recipient of a Heisenberg Fellowship of the German Research Society (DFG), he was a Visiting Professor at the State University of New York in 1980 and again in 1982, and at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 1984. Since 1986 he is full Professor of Biotechnology at the University of Würzburg. His research is centered on the molecular basis of membrane transport in microorganisms and higher organisms, with a special interest into pore-forming peptides and proteins.

Rezensionen
"This excellent book should be present in all laboratories ... In addition, it is suitable for advanced students in microbiology and molecular biology. The information is extremely up-to-date and is supported by high-quality and highly original graphics." International Microbiology "...a scholarly research monograph on the biophysical aspects of porins...recommended for molecular and structural biologists working with porin proteins and academic libraries."
