Joanne Burgess, BA, grew up in Duluth, Minnesota. She studied geography and urban studies at the University of Minnesota as well as education at City University in Bellevue, Washington.Prior to graduate school, Patricia and Joanne taught social skills at Seattle Children's Hospital to children on the autism spectrum and with other psychological disorders. During this time, they came up with the concept of the Ducky Friends Series. Following graduate school, they continued to teach social skills to children with anxiety, attention-deficit disorders (ADHD), and autism spectrum disorders as well as typical kids. Twenty years after discussing the concept of the Ducky Friends Children's Book Series, they found the time to make it a reality.
