Women in Melanesia, especially Papua New Guinea, face many barriers that hinder their progress to leadership roles. Most of the top positions are held by men and women occupy the lower positions. This study explored the different types of obstacles, especially the socio-cultural, organisational and individual barriers and how these barricades can be minimised to provide more opportunities for women to take up leadership roles. This book is vital for both the aspiring and current women in leadership roles in Melanesia and the Pacific. It is important for them to know the hinderances to their progress in their jobs so that they can be prepared to overcome these obstacles. It is also important for girls still in school to know the challenges they might encounter in life after completing their education. Finally this book is helpful for the policy makers so that women's voices can be heard and considered in the decision making.
