Yang Geng: Anhui University (BA in Philosophy 1982), Renmin University of China (MA and PhD in Philosophy 1991), previously professor of philosophy at Renmin University of China, and Vice Chancellor of Beijing Normal University (BNU), currently he is professor of philosophy at BNU. Concurrently, he is also the leader of the discipline (Philosophy) appraisal group of the State Council's Academic Degrees Committee, member of the Social Science Committee at the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and the Deputy Director of the Chinese Institute of Marx-Engels Studies. He has published more than 200 articles and 20 books, most representative of which include Defense for Marx: A New Interpretation of Marxist Philosophy, Reconstruction During Crises: A Modern Interpretation of the Materialist Conception of History, Reflections During Reconstruction: A Renewed Understanding of Historical Materialism, and The Rise of the East: Philosophical Reflections on the Chinese Model of Modernization. He has won eight national awards including the National Teaching Achievement Award, the National Excellent Course Award, and the Chinese Government Award for Publishing (Books Section).
