"Basic Translation Skills" reports on the findings of a PhD study that was conducted to assess and develop the basic translation skills of EFL majors of the College of Education in South Valley University, Egypt. The study utilized a process- based approach where the components of the complex competence of translation were identified and deskilled to recognize the mental processes and the step-by-step phases of translating. A systematic training programme was then developed based on a course design model and a theory of translation. The programme was administered on a sample of freshmen of the college of Education. Attitudes of students towards studying translation and towards peroforming the act of translating was also administered. While the book is addressed mainly to researchers in translation pedagogy, it has potentials for enriching the knowledge of researchers in EFL, Psycholinguistics, and Applied Linguistics.
