Illiteracy, particularly adult illiteracy is certainly the most debilitating quandary in the life of any individual or even nation at large. The aching inability to perform such simple tasks like reading their own mail, calculating business profits, reading simple medical and farming instructions and appending signatures to such sensitive documents like business and land deeds is a certain manifestation of the grueling and monstrous pangs of adult illiteracy. More often than not, this state renders them ready and silent victims of all manner of abuse, exploitation and ill treatment. In the event of such tragedies as death of spouse or children for example, most are savagely evicted from their own homes or even dispossessed off their very own properties.Locked out of mainstream conventional employment and job offers, they very often resort to such odd and sometimes degrading sources of livelihood like concocting illicit brews, sex trading and other heavy duty casual jobs that are not only usually unlawful but fundamentally endangering to their health and that of their families as well. There is therefore a dire need by all global governments to fight adult illiteracy through education.
