At the time of publishing, Irene Martin, the author of Legacy and Testament: The Story of Columbia River Gillnetters, was a priest at St. James Episcopal Church in Cathlamet, Washington. She was also a librarian, a freelance writer, an active supporter of community historic preservation efforts, and she fished commercially with her husband Kent. They have two children, Varsha and Menoka.
