Growing up in the small coastal town of Scituate, Massachusetts, Ashley has always been drawn to the water. After graduating from college, she joined the United States Peace Corps and, to her surprise, was assigned to volunteer on the islands of Tonga. Throughout her time on the islands, she enjoyed walking along the beach, where she witnessed farm pigs swimming in the water, and foraging seafood. "Beach Pig" was inspired by these fishing pigs. Today, Ashley lives in Pembroke, Massachusetts with her husband and three children. She teaches middle school history and finds great joy in writing during her children's nap times. Her favorite pastime is being outside with her family and enjoying tasty foods like crab rangoons and s'mores made with Reese's peanut butter cups. "Beach Pig" is her first book.
