The 2000 census found 6,466 people in the township, 6,104 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. Statewide, other Beaver Townships are located in Noble and Pike Counties. Major Jacob Gilbert and his son in law Adam Wieland were the first settlers of Beaver Township, arriving in 1802. Other early settlers include John Shanefelt (1802), Christopher Mentzer (1803), Christian Clinker (1083), John Coblentz (1804) and Frederick Dutterer (1804). For many years, the township was part of Columbiana County, before becoming part of Mahoning County in 1846.
