During the Victorian era, she gained a lot of fame for curating romantic and sensational novels. some of her notable works are "Under the Flags" and "A Dog of Flanders" and later known for her precious and enduring creations. Her speciality was characterized by vast description and modern elaborated prose. she faced a lot of criticism for her extravagant lifestyle and unorthodox views but still ruled over with a significant readership. Due to her imbalanced financial stability, she lived in trouble but later half got stability with her work and spent her final days in Viareggio Italy. However, she was well known and gained popularity in the 20th century for the impact she created on Victorian Literature and her work continues to be successful with the depiction of societal critique, and romantic prose.
