The year is 1942 and Becky, a girl growing up in a small town is learning about U.S. involvement in World War II. Becky is devastated when she learns that her favorite cousin, Paul, has been drafted by the Army. Becky's family teaches her what she can do at home that will help support the soldiers who are fighting overseas. She learns about responsibility, commitment, and patriotism through planting and tending to a victory garden. Over the course of the summer, Becky realizes that she makes a difference in helping her family as they face challenging times and events.
