The work presented here is the result of a scientific research on the behavior of the elderly with neuroaxial anesthesia developed in the province of Avila. The geriatric population is the fastest growing age group in the world, and therefore, there is an increase in the number of surgical interventions. This demographic change in the surgical population has had a tremendous impact on the practice of anesthesia. A few years ago we were conservative when it came to a surgical indication in an elderly patient because the accompanying conditions led to increased morbidity associated with surgery. Recent advances in the practice of anesthesia and the establishment of minimally invasive techniques in surgery have led to a decrease in mortality.
