The study is comprised the assessment of sanitation sustainability at four major villages of a rural area of Bangladesh. The international development targets for sanitation was set to reduce by one-half the proportion of people without access to hygienic sanitation facilities and by 2025 to provide sanitation to all. Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh has set the target to achieve the total sanitation by 2010, far ahead of international development goal of achieving sanitation for all in the year 2025. This target can only be achieved by ensuring the sustainability of sanitation where behavioral change will be the driving force. Ignorance to sanitation was mainly viewed into the rural people of Bangladesh due to the lack of awareness, poor education and economic status. From the study it becomes evident that the sanitation situation of rural areas of Bangladesh particularly in Dhamrai is not yet sustainable. The situation is far behind from what we want to achieve. But it is a good sign that awareness and realization and perception about health, hygienity, environment and safety is growing up among the people gradually, indicated by their rapid behavioral change.
