The purpose of this study is to test the relationship between socioeconomic status and political participation of individuals mediated by civic attitudes based on theory (set theory) of Verba and Nie. The hypotheses are tested by gathering Shiraz city survey data. The findings show that, contrary to the theory of Verba and Nie, when the level of income, education and occupation (three main measures of socio-economic status) increase, the level of political participation would decrease consequently. Similarly, from a descriptive point of view, a decrease in these three main measures of socio-economic status would result in an increase in the level of political participation. The data were collected from 158 citizens in Shiraz, Iran who were interviewed by questionnaire. The questionnaire method was used to gather information in two major sections namely: socio-economic status and political participation in Shiraz city.
